British Aikido Association
(Founder member of the BAB)

History

The British Aikido Association was founded in 1966 and has grown to be one of the largest Associations of Aikido Clubs in Great Britain. Many people regard the BAA as promoting only Tomiki Aikido. This has not been the case for many years and is certainly not the case now incorporating as it does traditional styles.

TOMIKI-KAI follows the teachings founded by Tomiki Sensei who was himself a senior student of Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei, the original founder of Aikido. These teachings are centered on techniques grouped together into series of kata, some of which seek to preserve the ancient use of Tanto, Jo and Bokken, together with open Randori, which encourages freedom of movement appropriate to differing attacks, students are encouraged to test their proficiency in competitions. KAI-SHIN-KAI is the School of Aikido founded within the BAA, by Mike Smith (Rokudan), dedicated to the practice of Traditional Aikido.
